Wow have the weeks flown by! It will be Christmas before we know it! The last post I talked about a couple craft projects I had done around the house and I am back to share the second one I did along with a couple other things that have been going on.

For started I created a wreath from a picture I found off Pinterest! By the way, if you don't know what Pinterest is, you have to check it out. It's the most amazing, addicting, idea creating website that I spend way to much of my time on. Trust me, one stop over there and you will agree. Anyways, here is the wreath

It is made out of cinnamon sticks and a floral ring along with the burlap hanging from the top of the door. The cinnamon sticks were hot glued on and I think they have finally stopped falling off. It seemed like every time I came home some were laying on my doormat from the humidity.

Now, onto an event that must only happen in my county. Here would be the only place you would find a Tractor Parade and a Golf Cart Parade at one event. The local fire department teamed up with the Historical Tractor Society and created this event. There were 72 tractors and 42 golf carts, here are a couple of the pictures I took.

A Crafty Week

I need to get better at this Post Title thing, I am clearly really awful at it. Creativity will hit me at some point and I promise they will get better!

Anyways, onto the meaning behind the title..Ever since we purchased the condo I have wanted to be hang things up that meant something and not just a picture bought at a store. So thats what I did this past week.

Sunburst mirrors have been all over the blog land, magazines and Pinterest, so I had to try to make one myself. I like instant gratification and I thought this would just take a Sunday and by Sunday night it would be hanging on my wall, wow was I wrong.

We went to Lowes last saturday and picked up the wood shims and stain, and then went to Michaels and got the craft rings and a 5" mirror. I originally planned on putting the mirror together and then sanding but after looking more into it I decided I would stain then first. So Sunday, thats what I did..

Stained one side and waaaaittteeeddd for what seemed to be forever and then stained the other side. By the time both sides were stained it had already been five hours and I didn't even start till around noon.

After getting all the stained pieces inside, I started gluing them onto the craft rings, following @kates tutorial. This is where my impatience took over and I didn't read the back of the liquid nails tube and well i had to glue the shims back on because they all started to move when i put the next layer on. By the end of Sunday the mirror had looked like this

I decided i should allow the glue to set for 24 hours, like the instructions said. With things to do Monday and Tuesday I had to wait till Wednesday to glue the last two layers on and then Thursday we glued the mirror on and let it sit another 24 hours.

By Saturday, just in time for a party I was having(which I will definitely talk about later), the mirror was ready to be hung.We just put an anchor in the wall and hung it by the smaller ring... lets hope this is enough!

I had tons of compliments on the mirror during the party, which means it must not look too bad for one of my first big craft projects. Next up... the cinnamon wreath!

Time Flies

Wow, has time flown since the last time I posted. Now I understand how hard it is to keep a blog running, it is definitely tough work!

These past two weeks have been filled with lots of activities. Jonathan and I went to the NAS Pax River Air Show, Labor Day weekend, and it was a blast. We only saw the Blue Angels fly but what a show that was.

That was Saturday, Sunday we saw Blake Shelton at a local firehouse close to where we live. It was an awesome show. Chris Young opened up for him and he was just as good.

Well for two weeks of really busy weeks, I don't have very much to show for it. Maybe next time I will have something a little more exciting to post about.

I have finally jumped into the blog world and I am one nervous girl. I am not a write by any means, in fact I am pretty bad at the whole grammar/punctuation thing so I am apoligizing in advanced.

Serendipity, according to Dictionary.com, is a faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident. That is exactly how this blog has started. I bought my first place, with my boyfriend Jonathan, right after graduating from college. Since then I have fallen in love with all things related to making a house a home. The condo we bought was brand new and we thought that was exactly what we wanted. After living in the home for a couple months I discovered that was exactly what I did not want. I wanted something with a little more character and thats when I turned to the blog world. After I started reading the first home blog I found, I realized that no matter what kind of house you have, there are always ways to make it a home and that it takes time to find your design style. Just because you have a builder-grade home, doesn't mean it can't have its own character or own style.

A Serendipitous Love is not only about my love for all things home, but my two adorable yorkshire terriers (which I am sure you will see many pictures of), food and anything else that life brings. So join me in this adventure that is bound to have its ups and downs but what I hope will inspire you to accept the unexpected!
